Wow so much has changed with Logan in the last few months. We will just call him a baby genius because it really is crazy how fast they pick things up! We know he is listening, observing and taking it ALL in so time to watch what we say and how we say it! Like when we are yelling at the dogs to come inside or to go lay down and not beg, just like we always have, except now once we are done we have an angry sounding little midget yelling gibberish at them too haha funny now but not such a good habit to get into! Everything is changing lately with Logan, from his head to his toes, he is a full fledged TODDLER. (Oh my gosh I have a toddler. I'm not sure if that makes me feel younger or older then saying 'I have a baby'...) So here is what you might have missed in the last few months...
Head- still a large melon, still a little wonkily shaped in the back (but shhh we don't say these things out loud anymore, remember who is listening ;) The hair is a whole other story, there's more of it and it's going a little crazy. Not sure if it will turn out with a little curl to it or not but it seems like the longer the back gets it has a little curl trying to break free at the bottom. Notice how I said the longer the back gets and not the front...yes he is rockin a mullet as only a cute baby can. He did receive his first hair cut from me in the bath tub last week. The hair was long enough to go over his ears and practically curl inside them so it was time to give it a little 'snip snip' just around the ears. And for my first hair cutting experience it was a success although actually carrying out the motions was a little scary haha. I would NOT trust myself with giving him a full fledged hair cut anytime soon...but then again should it turn out bad I could just tell everyone he cut it himself right ;)
Mouth- it's still moving allllll the time! Not only is our vocabulary expanding everyday but Logan is getting his animal sounds down too. We all know he knows what spiderman says as well ;) He loves to tell you what lions and tigers say because he gets to do his cute little growl. He calls ducks "kwa kwa" for "quack quack", he can "hoo hoo" like an owl and he loves to listen to me do "bawk bawk" for a chicken and try to copy it. He doesn't always say "meow" when I ask him what a cat says but everytime we come home he starts saying "tee tee" while looking for the kitty. While there are a lot of words that he says now that we can understand, there is still a lot of alien sounding babbling which is always fun to listen too. "No" just came out of that cute little mouth a few days ago and boy does he know how to use it haha. He will shake his head with the no but he will also shake his head with a yes, he just doesn't know how to say that yet, so this is actually coming in very handy! I updated the list on the side of the blog with his newest words.
Ears- these ears are busy and they love to hear "the wheels on the bus" song at all times. He requests his favorite cd (Songs for Wiggleworms, it's what we listen to at Storytime at the Library) at least 3 times a day. "row row row your boat" and "the itsy bitsy spider" are also some classic favorites of his. Another one he likes that I had never heard before is called "walkin' ol' Joe" and he loves to run around to that one. Dom and I listen to this cd so much that I have caught him singing a song from it in the shower haha. But it's the best cd I have found so far, I have looked for others but the ones where it is kids or animals/characters singing the songs drives me nuts much faster then the kind with adults who actually know how to sing! While these ears love to listen they sure have started to phase out some things too. That 'selective hearing' that men seem to have is already happening haha. He is usually a good listener but he doesn't always like to be told no...of course, because he's a toddler!
Arms and Legs- boy did we grow, now we can reach new things! The edges of the countertops are not safe anymore because little fingers have found their way up. With all this growing came the realization that we are big enough to now pull up onto the couch and sit where we like...and also try to walk right off the sides some times. No crashes yet but we know how graceful he is ;) Did I mention the urgent care right next to us is now open till midnight haha. With these arms we are also reaching for things we want, up for mom or dad to hold us, up to the cabinet with the crackers in it, reaching for light switches to flip and keys to grab, we reach for what we want and sometimes we get it and other times we are told that famous word 'no' and these arms and legs just become jelly as he flops on the floor and has a mini tantrum. yes those have started, small so far, but who knows what kind of meltdown he could pull off haha.
Hands- the hands are about as busy as the ears and mouth because they are all working together. Logan has really caught on to signing for what he wants and he communicates very well doing so. He will sign and say the word or just do the sign. He knows how to sign "more", "milk", "all done", "please", "open" and "keys". When we find he consistently wants something but can't say the word yet (like he did with 'open' and 'keys') we teach him the sign for it and it solves a lot of the screaming that went along with the miscommunication. Since he is so open to signing it has been really helpful! He is also using all these signs and words along with pointing and gesturing at what he wants or just plain dragging us to it when he can so that we will understand. I find this all extremely helpful! Another thing these hands have caught onto lately is how mommy pays for things and that when we get to the counter he wants to take the card out and give it to the person... as long as he doesn't know my pin number we are set ;)
Belly- Growing boys they sure do like to eat a lot! somedays it seems like there isn't enough variety in the house for his appetite and he ends up eating the same things. His favorites right now are crackers, cheese, any fruit, yogurt, guacamole, spaghetti, mac and cheese, quesadillas, pizza, chicken fingers, meat balls and everyday it changes haha. What he loved one day he might not be interested in the rest of the week, so we are always trying to figure something new out! Still trying to figure out how to get him to eat veggies, occasionally I can sneak some in but he's not a fan. Still won't eat lunch meat either, I'm guessing because of the texture because occasionally I will make him a cream cheese and ham sandwich and he will only eat the ham out of it but if it's just plain ham with cream cheese NOT in bread he won't touch it haha.
Toes- (ok really feet but head to feet doesn't sound as good as head to toe!) They know how to get around with out a problem now. "Running", as best as a toddler can, is his newest trick and I have to say, it's super cute! He's not too fast for me yet though, phew! He also knows how to stomp his feet, tip toe (hilarious) and march. We learned all of these from different songs we listen to...over and over and over... We also bought Logan some new shoes with his Christmas money from family and now that he has light up Cars shoes he likes to stomp around and show how cool they are ;)
Now that you know what's going on inside and outside with the little guy here is how cute that little boy is becoming!
