Blank Canvas

Ta-Da! Here is Logan's long awaited accessory, the helmet has arrived...

Of course he still looks totally handsome in it :)

Tuesday we went to Hanger to try on the helmet and make sure I know how to follow directions. Logan gets an introductory week schedule before we throw him into the 23 hours a day wearing the helmet rule. So yesterday was Day 1 and he wore it 1 hour on 1 hour off repeat for a total of 3 hours on. He took 2 naps in it yesterday and he didn't seem to really care about it at all. The only part he gets a little fussy over is when I have to un-velcro the side to take it off, it is kind of loud (and after my birthday weekend we learned Logan doesn't like loud noises...or any kind of exploding flames of fire haha but that's for another post). Today he wears it 2 hours on 1 hour off for a total of 6 hours on. He is asleep in it right now and he again didn't seem to mind. Day 3 is a total of 8 hours, Day 4 is the first time he will go to bed for the night in it and that day lasts 16 hours- she warned me this one might be hard. Day 5 is another 16 hour day and he will wear the helmet to bed from now on. Then Day 6 is the first day of 23 hours. After that he will wear it everyday 23 hours a day with 1 hour break to clean the helmet and him!
She said the reason for this schedule is to let him learn how to adjust to the changing body heat. Like we are sticking our baby in a wool cap all summer, poor thing. Yesterday after just 1 hour of it on his head was soaked in sweat and the helmet already stinks a little haha. So I think Logan will act like he has so far, not any differently then usual, with the helmet on indoors. I think where we might have some difficulties is in the carseat (he is always super hot in that thing anyways) and anytime we are outside now that it is getting warmer out. Luckily she explained that should we be spending the day at the zoo, beach, park etc and we will be outside to just take the helmet off and resume wearing it once our activities are over. That's good to hear since we have a week at Dominic's Nana's beach house in Delaware this summer.
It was a little more sad to see then I thought it would be, the helmet covers his whole head and makes it harder to kiss his little face. Plus the all white look he has for the moment makes it look so medical and that something is wrong with him (which ok, technically that applies but we don't want it to look like that!) So the decision has yet to be made what exactly we will be painting on it, but we are trying out some ideas and hopefully will have a finished product soon. I'm not sure I am ready for all the staring he will receive, but they will just be looking at his baby blues right ;) I am still working on my crazy answers as to why he is wearing a helmet haha.
I am betting that it's only a matter of time until this helmet breaks Dom's nose or knocks out one of my teeth haha. But really, we can't wait to see a nicely shaped noggin after this is all over with!
