Prostitute Pigeons

or could this post be more aptly titled "The Birds and The Bees"...

Dominic and I just commented today on how our resident backyard pigeon (who's nest is in the tree closest to the backdoor) always seems to have babies in her nest. She replaces the baby birds that were murdered by the dogs in mere days. And today I observed why our pigeon mama is so very fertile.

I just witnessed pigeons having sex. Pigeon porn.

At first as I was backing out of the driveway I glanced at the wall in our back yard and thought wow that is a really giant bird...wait it has two heads... *gasp* that pigeon is having sex on our wall! This was quite obvious by the pigeon hump (which in case you were wondering looks like all humpty dances in the nooky making world) and the ruffled feathers. I felt like I was watching the discovery channel special on animal intimacy practices. I'm pretty sure I was blushing as I drove away.

So according to wikianswers.com I should expect to see some more baby pigeons in "between 8 and 18 days , typically 8-12 days. incubation period ( from laying of egg to hatching is typically 17-19 days )."

That nest is going to be pretty crowded.

does this mean the dogs are considered population control?
